The solid heads can weigh 6-10 lbs. German heirloom with dense, firm drum-shaped heads packed with flavor. An excellent late-season variety, the large, 6-10lb. drum-shaped heads are dense and firm. A favorite choice for homemade sauerkraut. Cabbage lasts longer in the fridge than most vegetables. If cabbage is properly stored, it can last from 3 weeks to up to 2 months in your refrigerator. In optimum root cellar conditions, it can even last longer. Do not remove the outer leaves nor wash them until ready to use. Its versatile and can be used for soups and salads, shredded into coleslaws, stir-fried, and fermented into sauerkraut. It can be stuffed whole or used as individual cabbage leaves, steamed, boiled, fried, roasted, and grilled.
